The Subaru Legacy B4 GT300 is receiving the Super GT treatment with the help of Subaru Tecnica International, i.e. STI. Campaigned by R&D Sport, who previously ran a Vemac 408R, the Subaru Legacy is built for the GT300 class. Super GT racing is made up of two classes, GT300 and GT500, with the former being the lower tier class. The biggest difference between the two classes is horsepower. GT300 is limited to roughly 300hp and GT500 to 500hp. Both classes run on track at the same time, leading to some interesting passes and in-class battles. The Legacy driver line-up consists of Tetsuya Yamano and Shogo Mitsuyama.

This GT300 Subaru Legacy B4 is completely reworked as you can see. The carbon fiber body is chopped and sculpted for aerodynamics and body has been widened to cover the huge Yokohama Advan slicks. The Subaru Legacy B4 GT300 also uses a completely different suspension design, but the Subaru is still all-wheel drive and turbocharged. STI themselves are handling the engine tuning, as all Super GT engines are only leased out, and R&D Sport is fully running the team operation. STI only lists the engine as a “horizontally-opposed engine supplied by Fuji Heavy Industries” and the drivetrain as “Symmetrical AWD”.The Subaru Legacy B4 GT300 features a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four that pumps out more than 300 horsepower. We would like to stress to you that, when the directions call for you to remove or install any of your vehicle’s factory components, you must follow the instructions given in your factory service manual.

1. Remove the factory turbocharger assembly according to the instructions in the factory repair manual. Be careful when removing the factory turbocharger oil supply pipe. This will need to be reinstalled at a later step.

2. Install your new XS Engineering turbocharger as you would a stock turbocharger using your factory fasteners. Be sure to use the supplied Silicone Coolant Hose, Turbocharger Gaskets, and Crush Washers in place of your stock components. a. The oil inlet line bracket must be modified in order to accommodate the new turbocharger. Please remove it from the oil inlet line and rotate it 180 degrees clockwise so that it now lines up with the bolt hole on the compressor housing. The bracket

3. Heat shield(s) installation: a. If you are upgrading the turbocharger only and plan to use the stock downpipe and turbo pipe, you can reinstall both the main heat shield as well as the downpipe heat.

Your Cosworth “Big Valve” CNC Ported Cylinder Heads are brand new Subaru castings. They feature a 4-angle intake, and radiused exhaust valve job. They are pressure tested, deburred, ultrasonically cleaned, serialized, and assembled with the highest quality valve train components available. Many hours have been invested in engineering the port design and valve seat angles providing you the highest flowing and most complete Subaru Cylinder Head assemblies available. Your Cosworth Big Valve Subaru Cylinder Heads are capable of supporting over 1000hp.

It is recommended that these heads be set up and installed by a professional engine builder. Cosworth Big Valve CNC ported Cylinder Heads are intended for racing applications only and are not intended for use on street operated or emissions controlled vehicles.Specific applications (STI) –Since these cylinder heads are Subaru factory castings, they are designed to be a direct bolt-on replacement for OEM stock cylinder heads. Therefore, the assembly procedures and torque specifications depicted in your Subaru Factory Service Manual must be followed. Cosworth Subaru Big Valve CNC Cylinder Heads are recommended for 2.5L DOHC EJ25 STI engines with variable valve timing (VVT) only. Our cylinder heads are not compatible with a standard WRX (or non-VVT) type engine system. These heads use a different means of camshaft lubrication, and may not include provisions to run a single camshaft sensor type engine management. If your specific application calls for anything other than an STI configuration, your cylinder heads may need to be modified.

6) Fasten the cam sprocket and remove from the cam shaft using ST.

INSTALLATION
1) Fasten the cam sprocket and install to the cam shaft using ST.

Tightening torque:
Tighten to 30 N-m (3.1 kgf-m, 22.1 ft-lb) of torque, and then tighten further by 45°.

1. Turn crankshaft using ST. Align mark (a) of sprocket to cylinder block notch (b) and ensure that right side cam sprocket mark (c), cam cap and cylinder head matching surface (d) and/or left side cam sprocket mark (e) and belt cover notch (f) are properly adjusted. ST 499987500 CRANKSHAFT SOCKET.

B: Timing Belt Service and Repair Installation
1. Automatic belt tension adjuster assembly and belt idler for 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS Coupe.
1. Preparation for installation of automatic belt tension adjuster assembly; CAUTION:
- Always use a vertical type pressing tool to move the adjuster rod down.
- Do not use a lateral type vise.
- Push adjuster rod vertically.
- Be sure to slowly move the adjuster rod down applying a pressure of 294 N (30 kgf, 66 lbs.) .
- Press-in the push adjuster rod gradually take more than three minutes.
- Do not allow press pressure to exceed 9,807 N (1,000 kgf, 2,205 lbs.) .
- Press the adjuster rod as far as the end surface-face of the cylinder. Do not press the adjuster rod into the cylinder. Doing so may damage the cylinder.
- Do not release press pressure until stopper pin is completely inserted.

Timing belt installation :
1) Install right-hand belt cover No.2.
2) Install left-hand belt cover No.2.
3) Install tensioner bracket
4) Install crankshaft sprocket.
5) Install right-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket. To lock camshaft, use ST.
6) Install right-hand intake camshaft sprocket using ST.
7) Install left-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket using ST.

TIMING BELT
1) Crankshaft and camshaft sprocket alignment.
(1) Align mark on crankshaft sprocket with mark on the oil pump cover at cylinder block.
(2) Align single line mark on right-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket with notch on belt cover.
(3) Align single line mark on right-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket with notch on belt cover. (Make sure double lines on intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned.)
(4) Align single line mark on left-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket with notch on belt cover by turning sprocket counter-clockwise (as viewed from front of engine).
(5) Align single tine mark on left-hand intake camshaft sprocket with notch on belt cover by turning sprocket clockwise (as viewed from front of engine). Ensure double tines on intake and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned.

1. Monitor the following Data List parameter: Short FT #1 (Short Term Fuel Trim for Bank 1).
Using TIS techstream, select: Connect to Vehicle/Engine and ECT/Data List/Short FT #1.
2. Following conventional diagnostic procedure, confirm if there is a leak where the intake manifold and cylinder head meet between each intake runner.
